SEA-WATCH

Presentation & open discussion by Nani Bengel

The Sea-Watch sails in the bay of La Coruna, Spain, May 22, 2015. Sea-Watch is both a ship and a private initiative to rescue refugees in the Mediterranean and to highlight their plight. Harald Höppner, a German with no previous sea faring experience, founded it. Currently, the crew sails the Sea-Watch from Hamburg to Lampedusa, where it will be based between rescue missions. The next stop on the route is Lisbon, Portugal.

Nani spend 1 month this summer working together with Sea-Watch, an European NGO that secures maritime escape routes to Europe and helps refugees in life threatening situations on the sea. She was among the volunteer crew aboard MS Sea-Watch and will share with us her experiences in form of images, talk and open discussion.

Stacking Functions: Permaculture, Transition and Linz

Presentation and discussion by Pippa Buchanan

Pippa will provide a short introduction to permaculture and its ethics and principles along with some examples of permaculture in action. These include the Chikukwe project in Zimbabwe, post­earthquake work in Haiti and the Transition Town movement.
Following the talk we’ll facilitate a discussion around how we could apply permaculture principles in Linz: urban food growing, poo powered buses, establishing Transition Linz or using the principles to supporting refugees in the local area.The evening will be presented in English, but where possible further explanations will be provided in German.

Pippa Buchanan is an Australian permaculturist based in Linz, Austria. She is studying a Masters in Sustainability and Adaptation planning and was recently awarded her Permaculture Design Certificate.

Artist In Residence Presentation : IraTxE & La Pelos

aTxE (Basque) & La Pelos (Cordoba) [<<>>] checks in on the use of bio-toxic-machines as contestation and resistance to the information imposed. They design a tattooing machine as an artifact, a bio-machine, a deconstructive virus that creates new files from the borders.
They are staying at Eleonore ship for two weeks , as part of INFO DETOX residency Programme.

Artist In Residence Presentation : Bioni Samp

Bioni Samp (UK) is an artist, producer and video maker. He creates experimental electronic music, live and on recordings. He also seasonally works with bees. When not beekeeping, he makes custom audio software and hardware, which he uses in creating his music. He researches and experiment with stereo / binaural, producing recordings and performing live with extreme stereo processing, using mainly his own home made equipment.

Bioni Samp is this years’ 1st residence artist aboard Eleonore Ship. 2015 Residency programme entitled INFODETOX is curated by Shu Lea Cheang and will host other two artists this summer. Stay tuned 😉

Annabel Hesselink

Annabel Hesselink‘s work exists of video-experiments, video-interviews, photographs and documents. In the past years she has been searching for a wondrous image of the moon; an image that detaches itself from the familiar image of a grey and dusty surface. Annabel stayed as a guest for few days aboard the Eleonore ship and let the water environment inspire the next steps in her ongoing project.

Suncica Pasuljevic : NAPON

Institute for Flexible Cultures and Technologies – NAPON is a non-profit organization

based in Novi Sad/Serbia. NAPON’s activities are fields of social and cultural practices,

information and communication technologies (ICT) and recent official and unofficial

media and cultural history. Besides dealing with global questions, the Institute is also

oriented towards cultural problems emerged in local and regional history.

Novi Sad is the first Serbian city that the Danube river reaches. Being created on coasts

of the Danube, its development took place around this river, but also greatly depends on

it. Throughout the history, the Danube shaped city of Novi Sad into a multicultural place.

Artist and cultural organizations of this city try to includes Danube in it’s rich and diverse

art scene through art projects and artistic research.

First focus of this lecture will be on cultural practice of Institute for Flexible Cultures and

Technologies – NAPON as organizer and producer of various events that doesn’t involve

Danube directly but remains open to it and tries to create opportunities for new practices

in the field of art & science that may or may not include it. Second part of the lecture will

shortly introduce the current state of Novi Sad art scene and art projects that include

Danube river as ecological and environmental factor in their research.
