rehearsal at Stadtwerkstatt Linz
In Summer 2016 the serbian KARKATAG collective used their residency at Stadtwerkstatt Linz at the department New Art Contexts to develop the interactive work “rehearsal”.
The project was presented at STWST48x2 a 48 hours non-stop not-comply happening along the Danube waters which brings together local and international artists, cultural workers, network mediators in its hybrid approach towards new art contexts.
Person-participant becomes responsible for their own pair of legs, which act as their body extension and display their own sense of timing and rhythm. The choreographies are therefore always different and can vary from chaotic unsynchronized motion to harmonious and synchronous water ballet. The rehearsal is an attempt to bring people which are strangers to play together, creating choreographies, while rehearsing communication, collectivism, shared responsibility but also the ownership of the piece.
Project was realized with the support and production of Stadtwerkstatt Linz, a self organized cultural center established in late 70’s, which became hot spot of alternative culture in Linz. Since its identity is symbolized by workshop, through its history it always stood for a place of connection between culture and art with science and technology and therefore directly contributed in building of new media scene.
